  9.     You ask whether TV news star Diane Sawyer is worth her pay
  10. (VIDEO, Aug. 7). The reply is a resounding yes! I'll give you the
  11. benefit of the doubt and assume there was no sexual bias in posing
  12. the question. The real issue is whether her co-anchor, Sam
  13. Donaldson, merits his. His patronizing demeanor offends me and, I'm
  14. sure, many others. Their show will be able to survive only if
  15. viewers feel her assets outweigh his shortcomings.

  20.     An intelligent woman works hard all her life to achieve a top
  21. position in her profession, but it seems that everyone is taking
  22. pains to point out her good looks, her winning smile and her
  23. charms. What ever happened to giving credit where credit is due?

  28.     The hype about the money and glamour of these media stars sets
  29. a poor example for American youth. It encourages some to take an
  30. easy route to the "good life" through crime or drugs. The integrity
  31. of the Fourth Estate was more secure when journalism was controlled
  32. by news-hounds, not show dogs.

  37.     You say a CBS producer recalled that Sawyer would "show up at
  38. 2 o'clock in the morning and write her own copy" and said that this
  39. was "unheard of." When I was a news writer for CBS in the
  40. mid-1970s, I sometimes worked the overnight shift and helped
  41. prepare the CBS Morning News. Then it was the exception if an
  42. anchor did not contribute a good share of the copy; it was part of
  43. the job.

  48.     In answer to your question, Sawyer is worth at least what
  49. Donaldson, Dan Rather or any other major network anchor earns. It's
  50. plain comparable value. Whether any of them truly merits what they
  51. make is an entirely different matter.
